How to apply

We accept applications throughout the year and offer places to students where available and in accordance with our admissions policies. We recommend that students start school with their peers in August or at the start of the second semester in January. However, we understand that families move throughout the academic year and do our utmost to make these transitions as smooth as possible. Please review our School Age Placement Guide to understand the grade for which your child will be considered.

We appreciate that moving to a new school can be daunting, which is why our admissions team is on hand to guide families through the process. We have created checklists for each school division to help simplify the application process at ISB. To begin the process, review the six-step overview and the checklist for the appropriate school division; then complete the online application form.

Six-Step Overview

	Create an account and submit the ISB Online Application Form which can be found by clicking our "Apply Now" button. You will then be assigned a dedicated Admissions Officer.
	Speak to your Admissions Officer before submitting required application documents.
	Request Confidential School Recommendation Form(s) by providing the Teacher’s name, school, and email address in the “Questionnaire Recipient” form of the application platform. Please mention to the student's educators to look out for these online form(s) in their email.
	Submit payment of application fee. Once the online application is submitted you will receive an invoice for payment. This non-refundable fee is RMB 2,800 and applies for the academic year of application only.
	Arrange a time with your Admissions Officer for an English language proficiency test (for all non-native English speakers) and/or a Chinese language proficiency test for students applying for the Dual Language Program in Elementary.
	Arrange a time with your Admissions Officer for a Family Introduction Meeting either on campus or virtually through Microsoft Teams.

The Admissions Committee review process is approximately two weeks from completion of all steps. While every effort is made to complete the application process as efficiently as possible, additional documentation or testing may be required at the request of the Admissions Committee to ensure the success of your student at ISB.

Elementary School Applicants (for EY 2 - Grade 1)

A passport-size photo of the student taken with a white or blue background.
A copy of the student's and the parents' passport pages with picture.
A copy of the student's birth certificate.
Copies of Citizenship Documentation:

For foreign passport-holding families: A copy of the working parent's visa and student's dependent visa issued for Beijing. (Those families who are moving to Beijing can submit this documentation on or before the student's first day of school).
OR
For families holding China-HK, China-Taiwan, or China-Macau passports: copies of family travel permits (通行证), permanent residence IDs, and proof of parent employment in Beijing.
OR
For foreign passport-holding families with Q1 visa(s) contact your Admissions Officer for additional application procedures.
OR
For Chinese passport-holding families with foreign permanent residency permits and proof of having lived abroad for more than one year, contact your Admissions Officer for additional application procedures.

Copies of most recent school records in English: three most recent years, including progress reports, if available/applicable.
Copies of relevant health, educational, or support documents to best support your child at school.
