Clubs and Service groups
Empowered with purpose and compassion
We aspire to infuse Service Learning into the curriculum and across the co-curricular program at ISB. It is a captivating, challenging, and relevant learning journey that integrates purposeful action with instruction and reflection. Service Learning develops compassion and empathy, strengthens communities, and nurtures a global mindset.
In our middle and high schools, our club program provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, explore their passions, and demonstrate a commitment to global citizenship. There are a wide range of clubs for middle and high school students to get involved in, from photography, design, and magazine clubs to World Scholars club and the Model United Nations. Activities for middle and high school students run on the days of the week designated by the sponsor and continue for a whole semester or last the academic year.
Encouraging Balance in Student Lives
We encourage students to strive for balance in their lives; alongside rigorous academic work, they also undertake creative pursuits, physical activities, and service projects.
A great service experience should be both challenging and enjoyable—a journey of self-discovery that sometimes takes students out of their comfort zones. The spirit of service is important to us at ISB; for that reason, we fully support numerous service groups and actively encourage all students to get involved. From environmental groups like Roots & Shoots and Greenkeepers to social advocacy groups such as Nightingale Charity Club and Hopes for Homes, there is something for every student, no matter their passion.
Active Engagement in Service
‘Active engagement’ is key—service is not just about raising money. While fundraising has its place, we are keen to see students actively involve themselves in service and work alongside their peers at school to improve conditions for those less fortunate than themselves. Many students at ISB, through their involvement in one or more service groups, recognize the merits of accepting personal challenges and working collaboratively, as well as individually, for the benefit of others.
Service Across All Grades
Service starts in our elementary school, with groups such as Student Helpers, Vision Club and Student Council. In our middle school, the MS Student Council builds on the skills students have learned through prior involvement in elementary school, and, along with Habitat for Humanity, provides opportunities for collaborating with peers and other stakeholders. Student service groups in high school offer a variety of opportunities for developing global competency skills, allowing students to explore issues and ideas of personal, local, and global significance while challenging themselves to build further connections with peers, local communities, and global communities.
